📖 ICOCA card ICOCA

The "ICOCA," featuring the mascot platypus Ikochyan (イコちゃん), is a transportation IC card issued by JR West Japan. It can not only be used to pay for train fares but also serves as an electronic wallet when shopping at affiliated stores. "ICOCA" is a reusable prepaid card. By recharging it at designated machines or ticket vending machines at the station (with a maximum limit of 20,000 yen), users can simply tap the card at the automatic ticket gates to enter the station. It is compatible with various national railway and bus services, including "Suica" (スイカ) (JR East) and "PiTaPa" (ピタパ) (Kansai private railways). There are over 1.85 million affiliated stores across Japan where ICOCA can be used for payments, including convenience stores, restaurants, and station shops, making daily life or travel more comfortable and convenient with just one card. When no longer in use, the remaining balance will be refunded after deducting a handling fee, along with the 500 yen deposit. Additionally, if a registered IC card like the "Children's ICOCA" is lost, it can be reissued (a handling fee applies).
