About Akita Cultural Industry Facility Matsushita
Reborn in modern times as an "Akita Maiko," she can experience a complex facility that showcases Akita culture.
Details
The ruins of "Kappo Matsushita," founded during the Taisho era, are still preserved in Chuo Park today. Utilizing its beautiful wooden Japanese-style architectural appearance, it has transformed into a cultural industry facility called "Matsushita," serving as a base for introducing the gradually disappearing Akita culture.
The main space used for cultural activities is the large hall, which includes a terrace café called "Saryo" and a bar called "Shubo" where you can taste Akita sake. Among these, the most popular attraction for tourists is the "Akita Maiko Theater," where you can see Akita maiko performances. Shows are held twice a day on Saturdays, featuring Akita maiko dances, tea ceremonies, and tatami experiences. The content of the daytime and afternoon shows varies, and individuals can participate alone. The afternoon show can be attended without a reservation for a ticket price of 2,200 yen on the day. You can also make advance reservations for performances on days other than Saturday or for experiences such as strolling through the streets with Akita maiko.
In the past, the bustling area of Akita known as "Kawabata" was home to nearly 200 entertainers, bringing a lively atmosphere. The Akita Maiko Theater allows the brilliant ambiance of that era to be reborn in modern times.
Highlights
The old-style ryotei building, preserved since the Taisho era, has been renovated. On Saturdays, the "Akita Maiko Performance Venue" showcases dance performances by Akita maiko (apprentice geisha) (reservations required for daytime shows). The tea room is a café where you can enjoy Akita's unique tea and desserts, making it the perfect spot to take a break while strolling through Chuo Park.
