About Nagai Honke

Focusing on "sake rice" and the "natural environment" such as water and air, the sake brewery is specifically chosen for brewing in winter.

Details

Nagai Honke is a rural sake brewery founded in 1895, located near the foothills of the sacred Mount Kasyō in the northern mountainous region of Gunma Prefecture. The brewery places great emphasis on selecting high-quality "sake rice," a key ingredient that determines the quality of sake. It focuses on using "famous water" sourced from the Tanigawa mountain range and Mount Hotaka, effectively utilizing the fresh air purified by the clouds of the Joshin'etsu mountain range and the cooler temperatures of the "natural environment." To produce high-quality and delicious sake, the brewery strives for perfection in the brewing process, dedicating time and effort, and combines traditional techniques with the rich experience of its brewers as the foundation of its sake-making. It is said that sake brewed with the king of sake rice, "Yamada Nishiki," not only has a rich flavor but also boasts a luxurious aroma and a smooth, delicate mouthfeel. The renowned brand "Tonegumi" from Nagai Honke is a representative product that fully embodies the unique flavor of Yamada Nishiki. Nagai Honke periodically holds tours of the brewery. During the visit, guests can admire the skilled brewing techniques of Master Brewer Hiroyuki Nagai and his meticulous artisan spirit. Additionally, participants can join a tasting event comparing the famous brand "Tonegumi" of junmai sake and namazake. It is recommended to visit during the winter brewing season to enjoy a variety of delicious sake.
