About Asahidake
Riding the cable car slowly up to the highest peak in Hokkaido, enjoying the breathtaking views that change with the seasons.
Details
The Daisetsu Mountains, with peaks connected to each other, have an average elevation of 2,000 meters, with the highest peak, "Asahidake," reaching an elevation of 2,291 meters. However, visitors can easily access an area at 1,600 meters by taking a cable car, allowing them to enjoy the stunning views of the snow-capped mountains, which are very popular among travelers.
The period from summer to autumn is the most comfortable season for sightseeing. In summer, alpine plants bloom in the clear mountain air, while autumn offers a landscape filled with colorful foliage, and Siberian chipmunks can be spotted in the area. In winter, a vast expanse of snow creates a picturesque scene, with opportunities to see diamond dust and snow patterns.
Near the 1,600-meter elevation is "Zamine Lake," where, on clear days, Asahidake reflects on the pristine blue surface of the lake, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. Walking from the Zamine Station of the cable car to the summit is also a notable feature. Additionally, there is the Asahidake Onsen nearby, where visitors can relax and relieve the fatigue from hiking.
The "Asahidake Visitor Center" located at the foot of the mountain provides information about Asahidake and its surroundings. It features a resting area and exhibits related to Asahidake, along with knowledgeable staff who offer advice for climbing and sightseeing in the area.
