About Ashikaga Fireworks Festival

20,000 fireworks rose into the night sky, making it the top fireworks festival in the Kanto region.

Details

The Ashikaga Fireworks Festival, held every August along the banks of the Watarase River since 1903, is a traditional event that has lasted for over 120 years. With approximately 20,000 fireworks launched, it is the largest in the Kanto region, attracting more than 500,000 visitors each year, hence it is known as the "Nighttime Cool-off Festival for 500,000 People." From summer to early autumn, fireworks festivals are held throughout Japan. The Ashikaga Fireworks Festival is particularly renowned for its high quality and large scale, drawing visitors from all over the country. The event features a progression of fireworks, from classic shaku-dama to intricate designs, and even famous fireworks crafted by skilled artisans, painting the dark night sky in vibrant colors. Continuous launches and combinations of large and small fireworks elicit waves of applause. The climax of the festival includes the 800-meter-high "Waterfall Fireworks" and the stunning "Rapid Fire Nebula," delivering an overwhelming spectacle. The fireworks festival is held in an open area along the riverbank, free of charge. However, it is expected to be very crowded, so arriving early is recommended. For those who wish to enjoy the best views, paid seating options are available. These seats are closer to the launch site, providing a more impactful experience and are perfect for photography (details about the paid seating are yet to be determined).
