About Atsuta Hōraiken Main Store
You can taste three different flavors of the famous Nagoya eel dish "Unagi Rice Three Ways" at its original restaurant.
Details
Atsuta Horaiken opened in 1873 in front of Atsuta Shrine and is the birthplace of Nagoya's famous eel dish, "Unadon San-shoku." The term "Unadon San-shoku" is a registered trademark of Atsuta Horaiken. This dish consists of grilled eel cut into small pieces served over white rice, which is placed in a container called "お櫃" (ohitsu).
Using binchotan charcoal to grill fresh eel gives it a crispy skin and tender flesh. The secret sauce, passed down through generations, is also a key to the dish's deliciousness.
The mainstream way to enjoy Atsuta Horaiken's "Unadon San-shoku" is through three different methods. First, the fragrant eel is enjoyed directly with the rice to savor its original flavor. The second bowl includes toppings like chopped green onions and wasabi, while the third bowl is drizzled with broth. This gradual change in flavor allows diners to fully appreciate the taste of the eel until the meal is finished.
In addition to the main store, there is a branch called "Jingu Store" near the main store, as well as "Matsuzakaya Nagoya Store" located close to the central streets of Nagoya, known as "Sakae."
