About BankART KAIKO

The gallery located in the restored old Imperial Silk Warehouse serves as a hub for the dissemination of cultural and artistic creation.

Details

The BankART KAIKO is located in the Kitachuo area, which was originally expanded with many warehouses to store silk from all over Japan for export from Yokohama Port. These warehouses are known as the "Teikan Warehouse," built in the 15th year of the Taisho era (1926) after the Great Kanto Earthquake, and are a major work from the later years of architect Endo Tōta. The current "Old Teikan Warehouse" area has transformed into a complex facility called "Yokohama Kitachuo KNOT," featuring skyscrapers, hotels, shops, and more, while preserving and restoring its historical landscape. BankART KAIKO is a gallery operated by BankART1929, hosting various exhibitions, events, and shops. BankART1929 is a non-profit organization that plays a central role in Yokohama's urban development concept, revitalizing the area through the use of historical buildings and warehouses for cultural and artistic purposes. Just a one-minute walk from the Minatomirai Line's "Bashamichi" station, it is conveniently located and is a popular gallery for locals and contemporary art enthusiasts to visit after work or while sightseeing.
