📖 Details
BIWAKO DAUGHTERS is located in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, and is a delicatessen run by a family of fishermen for three generations, serving as a direct sales store for Lake Biwa. Upholding the philosophy of "wanting local residents, visitors, and even young people to understand the deliciousness of lake fish, and to convey the charm of Lake Biwa to more people," it offers traditional delicacies and carefully selected high-quality products from the region.
The store displays traditional foods and unique side dishes created from their variations. The "Shrimp Floss" is made by cooking Lake Biwa's sweet shrimp in a traditional sauce for a sweet and spicy flavor; "Adult Shrimp Floss" includes chopped ginger; the signature dish "Biwako Chicken," marinated overnight in the rice of funazushi, is even softer than thigh meat; and there are "Biwako Pan-fried Dumplings" made with lake fish called "Nise Carp" and the representative dish of Shiga Prefecture, "Mackerel Sushi." Additionally, various souvenirs such as "Shrimp Beans" and "Biwako Trout Cream Cheese Sandwiches" are also quite popular. In particular, the "Biwako Bento," which allows you to enjoy the deliciousness of Lake Biwa, is very popular and is available by reservation only.
The shop also offers fishing experiences in Lake Biwa, aimed at families or parent-child groups, with a maximum of four participants per session (for example, two adults and two children). The basic fee is 6,600 yen for adults and 2,200 yen for children (including tax), which includes breakfast. The clams caught can be taken home for free. Fishing is closed from early January to early February, with net fishing from mid-February to the end of July, clam fishing and net fishing from August to November, and net fishing in December, allowing for different fishing experiences depending on the season. The fishing boats are designed to look like pirate ships, providing an enjoyable environment to experience fishing.
