About Bōki Ancient Hill Park

Vibrant seasonal flowers in full bloom, ancient houses that have been renovated and restored, and historical sites rich in charm.

Details

The park is centered around the Mukoyama Kofun Group, built during the mid to late Kofun period. It contains a total of 15 burial mounds, including 8 keyhole-shaped mounds located within two separate hills, and was designated a national historic site in 1994. Within the park, there are reconstructed pit dwellings and a 15-meter-high raised structure that evoke the lifestyle of ancient people. The park also features a restored Hōrō-style burial mound from the mid Kofun period, surrounded by 104 clay figures (haniwa), creating an atmosphere that feels as if one has traveled back in time to the Kofun period. The blooming flowers and plants throughout the seasons, such as cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, autumn peonies, and plum blossoms, are also a major highlight. Particularly from mid-June to August, the sight of approximately 40 varieties of lotus flowers blooming on the pond is breathtaking. Among them, the Ōgaren lotus is derived from seeds found in ruins estimated to be over 2000 years old, making it quite a sight to behold. There is also the "Festival Square," a vast grassy area, and the "Adventure Square," equipped with wooden outdoor physical activity facilities, where visitors can enjoy a full day of fun. Nearby, the "Kamiyodo Shirahō no Oka Exhibition Hall" showcases pottery and murals unearthed from the ruins in Yodogawa Town, making it worth a visit.

Highlights

You can leisurely stroll among the blooming flowers throughout the four seasons. There are several national historic sites and ancient tombs, and you can also enter the restored pit dwellings. The ancient lotus flowers from 2000 years ago (June to August) are definitely worth seeing. Additionally, there are wooden outdoor fitness activity facilities.
