🗺️ Chiyama Senmaida (Chiyama Thousand Rice Terraces)中山千枚田

Chiyama Senmaida is located in the central area of Shodoshima, known for its Chiyama rural Kabuki stage. The landscape, dotted with approximately 800 rice terraces on slopes ranging from 150 to 250 meters above sea level, is truly breathtaking. In 1999, it was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as one of the "Top 100 Rice Terraces in Japan." During spring and summer, the terraces are filled with lush green rice plants, while in autumn, they are adorned with golden rice ears, showcasing different sceneries with the changing seasons. A must-see highlight is the "Mushi-okuri" (虫送) held in early July, where people carry torches known as "Hikite" (火手) and walk along the paths between the terraces to drive away pests in a traditional activity. Located within the Senmaida is "KOMAME Shokudo," a restaurant that promotes the traditional culture and culinary resources of Shodoshima. Their signature dish is the "Onigiri Teishoku," made with white rice grown in Senmaida and cooked with renowned spring water. Guests can enjoy their meal while taking in the beautiful views of the rice terraces.
