📖 Details

The Chōjahan Visitor Center is located at the Kusu Renzan trailhead and serves as a facility that introduces the history and nature of Kusu through exhibitions. It provides a wealth of information and explanations related to nature, biology, and the Tōyohara Wetlands, making it a more engaging experience for visitors. A seasonal video showcases the natural landscapes of the mountains and forests. The lobby features a giant satellite photo of Aso Kusu National Park, allowing visitors to experience the feeling of being a giant. Behind the visitor center lies the expansive Tōyohara Wetlands, registered under the Ramsar Convention, which has hiking trails. Tōyohara is a wetland formed by the springs of Kusu Renzan, maintained annually through the practice of burning grasslands in spring, representing a wetland sustained by both nature and humanity. Walking along the three hiking trails, which are distinguished by distance, visitors can enjoy beautiful flowers throughout the seasons, such as primroses in spring, daylilies in summer, and white beard grass in autumn.
