About Chirin Island
Walking along the sandbar path that emerges during low tide, heading towards the island of connections.
Details
Chirin Island is an uninhabited island in Kinko Bay (Kagoshima Bay) with a circumference of about 3 kilometers. It is located approximately 800 meters from Taniyama Cape, and during low tide from March to October, a sandbar known as "Ai no Komichi" (Path of Love) appears, connecting the cape to the mainland, allowing for a walk across.
The island features walking trails and viewing platforms where visitors can stroll and enjoy the pristine natural scenery. Due to its connection to the mainland, it is also nicknamed "Ketsuen no Michi" (Path of Bonding) and "Ai no Shima" (Island of Love), making it a popular energy spot. The round trip along the sandbar takes about 40 minutes, and it is recommended to visit on days with longer low tide periods. Since there are no restrooms or running water on the island, and the temperature on the sandbar can be extremely high in summer, please remember to bring drinking water, a hat, or an umbrella. Additionally, due to the strong currents in the surrounding waters, swimming is not allowed.
Furthermore, as the timing of the sandbar's appearance is uncertain, it may not be possible to cross to the island depending on the actual conditions. It is advisable to check the official website for relevant announcements before planning your visit.
