About Chokai Mountain Wooden Toy Museum
Learn while playing in a museum filled with a warm wooden atmosphere.
Details
The over 60-year-old wooden school building has been transformed into a multi-generational exchange facility. In addition to wooden toys and large play equipment, there is also a local museum displaying collections, serving the function of inheriting and promoting traditional culture.
The facility is divided into seven areas, each with its own unique activities. For example, in the "Forest Playground," which was originally a gymnasium, there is a ball pit filled with 5,000 wooden balls and 26 playhouses. In "Playhouse 1," there are over a hundred wooden toys available for play, while in the "Handicraft Workshop," visitors can create their own toys using wood or bamboo. Each area offers a warm wooden atmosphere, showcasing the charm of timber from Yurihonjo City and other regions.
The free-access citizen area includes an exhibition room that introduces local farming tools, fishing gear, and the lifestyle of people in ancient times. After playing, visitors can take a break at "Kitchen Café Kino," where they can enjoy rice cooked in a bamboo pot and dishes made from locally harvested vegetables, providing both physical and mental satisfaction.
