🗺️ [Closed] Sezon Modern Art Museumセゾン現代美術館

Due to facility renovations and garden maintenance, the museum will be closed from November 1, 2023, until April 2026 (tentative). The museum is conceptualized as "Breathing with Art in the Forest of Karuizawa" and "A Museum Coexisting with Nature." It was established in 1932 in Takanawa, Tokyo, and relocated to Karuizawa in 1981. In 1991, on the 10th anniversary of the relocation, it was renamed "SEZON Museum." The museum houses around 800 artworks, including pieces by 20th-century masters such as Andy Warhol and Sam Francis, as well as works by many young artists. Visitors have the opportunity to appreciate works related to the themes of the biannual special exhibitions. Additionally, the museum features a nature-rich strolling garden scattered with various artworks, where visitors can enjoy art while listening to the soothing sound of flowing water, adding to its unique charm. (Entry to the garden is limited to museum and café visitors). Furthermore, the attached "Cafe Yama Arashi" also has a collection of books related to SEZON culture and art. Here, you can enjoy seasonal dishes made with local organic ingredients, themed around "Gratitude for Nature and the Kind Earth," while also indulging in the pleasure of reading.
