🗺️ Feng Park

📝 Introduction

The park built on the ruins of Nagahama Castle is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, with around 600 Yoshino cherry trees blooming in competition.

📖 Details

Toyohama Park was built in 1909 (Meiji 42) on the site of the abandoned Nagahama Castle from the Edo period and is named after Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the former lord of Nagahama Castle. In 1983, a reconstruction of Nagahama Castle, modeled after the Azuchi-Momoyama period, was built within the park, and the interior is open to the public as a history museum. The park also features a statue of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and a stone monument of "Taiko Well" by Lake Biwa, among other attractions. The park offers beautiful floral scenery throughout the four seasons. From late March to early April, around 150 plum trees bloom with red and white flowers; from late April to early May, vibrant azaleas are in full display; and in early May, romantic wisteria cascades down from trellises. The most spectacular sight is the cherry blossoms in spring. Approximately 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees are planted in the park, and from early to mid-April, the cherry blossoms bloom around the Nagahama Castle keep, creating an incredibly beautiful scene that has been selected as one of the "One Hundred Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." From the observation deck of the Nagahama Castle History Museum, one can overlook the surrounding cherry blossoms, witnessing a breathtaking sea of pink flowers. During the cherry blossom viewing season, there are also nighttime illumination events. Toyohama Park is a representative cherry blossom viewing spot in Shiga Prefecture. Additionally, Toyohama Park is equipped with tennis courts, various sports equipment, and a children's playground, allowing both adults and children to enjoy themselves in the spacious park.
