🗺️ Fukuroda Falls袋田の滝

The袋田瀑布 (Fukuroda Falls) is a representative tourist attraction in Ibaraki Prefecture, located upstream of the Takigawa River, a tributary of the Kuji River flowing through the Oku-Kuji area. With an impressive height of 120 meters and a width of 73 meters, it ranks as one of Japan's three major waterfalls alongside Tochigi Prefecture's 華厳滝 (Kegon Falls) and Wakayama Prefecture's 那智滝 (Nachi Falls). It is also included in the list of Japan's 100 Famous Waterfalls. The waterfall cascades down four large rock walls, earning it the nickname "Fourfold Waterfall." According to another legend, it is said that the monk 西行法師 (Saigyo Hoshi) praised the falls during his visit, stating, "If you don't come to experience it in each season, you cannot truly appreciate the charm of this waterfall." In spring, the fresh greenery; in summer, the splashing water; in autumn, the beautiful red leaves; and in winter, the mysterious ice falls—all these seasonal changes deeply attract visiting travelers. From autumn to winter, a nighttime illumination event called 大子来人 (Daigo Light) is held. This dreamlike space created by the interplay of nature and light is highly recommended for a personal experience.
