📜 Content

The Ōgamiyama Shrine is an ancient shrine centered around "Ōyama faith," with the main deity being Ōkuninushi no Mikoto. It is also the ninth designated site of the Izumo country’s sacred places, which consists of 20 historical shrines and temples. The shrine is divided into the main shrine located at the foot of Mount Ōyama and the inner shrine situated halfway up the mountain. Extending from the main shrine to the inner shrine is a natural stone path lined with giant cedar and beech trees, measuring approximately 700 meters long, built in the early Showa period, making it the longest stone path in Japan. After passing through the stone path, the sacred gate stands in front of a well where the sacred water springs forth. The front gate of the main hall of Daizenji Temple, built in the 4th year of Ansei (1857), is known as the "Reverse Gate" or "Opposite Gate" because it opens in the opposite direction. The inner shrine's hall is the largest Gongen-zukuri style in the country, with the main hall, offering hall, and worship hall designated as important cultural properties by the state. The interior features a mixed style of Shinto and Buddhist elements, painted using a special technique that resembles gold leaf with white sandalwood. It also includes murals of celestial maidens and a ceiling decorated with floral and seasonal motifs, which are open for public viewing. The main shrine covers an area of six thousand tsubo, and the outer garden features a moat with koi swimming leisurely and hydrangeas, making it a perfect place for a relaxing stroll.
