🎨 Shrine Gallery
📝 Introduction
The lion head is full of impact and power! It is said to be a shrine that can bring good luck.
📖 Details
Located in the Namba area of Osaka, the "Namba Yasaka Shrine" was established during the reign of Emperor Nintoku (313-399 AD) and has a long history.
Upon entering the shrine grounds, the first thing that catches the eye is the "Lion Hall" located on the west side of the main shrine. The exterior of the hall resembles a lion's head, and it was constructed alongside the main shrine, which was rebuilt in 1974 after being destroyed during the Osaka air raids. The design aimed to create a "symbol of the shrine that shocks the people of Osaka," themed around the traditional lion dance that wards off evil spirits. The Lion Hall stands 12 meters tall, 11 meters wide, and 10 meters deep, making it visible even from the torii gate on the east side. It is said to bring good fortune, attracting visitors and worshippers from across the country and overseas who come to pray for academic success, smooth examinations, prosperous businesses, and other blessings.
During the summer festival and New Year period, the eyes of the lion are illuminated, and the intricately hand-carved phoenix sculptures on the ceiling, each with a unique design, are also worth seeing.
