About Island in the Forest of Children's Books
A huge bookshelf is filled with about 20,000 books that attract children's curiosity.
Details
Proposed by the renowned architect Tadao Ando, who is active around the world, this cultural facility features an impressive collection of approximately 20,000 books.
The walls from the first to the third floor have been transformed into giant book walls, with colorful book covers lined up in a stunning display. While the books are not available for borrowing, visitors can freely browse through them inside the facility, and each person is allowed to take one book to read in Nakanoshima Park, where the facility is located. It is recommended to sit on the benches along the river flowing through the park and enjoy a leisurely reading experience.
The books are categorized into 12 genres, including "Playing with Nature" and "For Animal Lovers." The collection primarily consists of Japanese publications, ranging from picture books to illustrated guides, literary works, cookbooks, and art collections, with some foreign books also available.
In addition to picture books, there are novels, poetry collections, and art anthologies, many of which can spark the curiosity of adults, allowing them to reconnect with their inner child and immerse themselves in the world of books.
