About Kōsegake Onsen (Kōsegake Hot Spring)

Mud baths with skin-beautifying effects are the most popular!

Details

Gosengake Onsen is a standalone hot spring inn located within the "Towada-Hachimantai National Park," surrounded by mountains. The area is filled with hot spring steam, and one can see the source of the spring and mud volcanoes, creating a landscape reminiscent of a hell valley. The spring water is a gray, cloudy sulfur spring. It is effective for various ailments, including atopic dermatitis, neuralgia, and gastrointestinal diseases, earning it the reputation of "arriving by horse and returning on foot." A local specialty is the "black egg," which turns the eggshell black when boiled in the highly sulfuric hot spring water. There are a total of seven bathing facilities, including box steam baths, spa hot springs, and steam saunas. Among them, the mud hot spring, which gushes from 1,000 meters underground, has a warming effect and is said to have beautifying properties that are very popular among women. There are also souvenirs available, such as mud soap and hot spring mud face masks made from the spring's mud. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the city of Kazuno, where Gosengake Onsen is located, is also the birthplace of Akita's famous "grilled rice sticks." The local cuisine, made with regional ingredients, is also well-known for its deliciousness.
