About Lin Fumiko Memorial Museum
The former residence of the writer Lin Fumei, a tranquil and elegant traditional Japanese house.
Details
The Lin Fumiko Memorial Museum was established to commemorate the author Lin Fumiko, known for her famous works such as "Wandering" (放浪記) and "Floating Clouds" (浮雲). This building is also Lin Fumiko's former residence, where she lived for about ten years from 1941 until her death. It is said that before constructing this house, Fumiko specifically studied architectural knowledge and took the designer to visit private residences in Kyoto, putting a lot of thought into creating her new home. Visiting this tranquil residence, one can feel Fumiko's aesthetic sense from every corner. The museum retains the tea room with its sunken hearth seating and the utensils used at the time, conveying the various emotions and charm hidden within this traditional Japanese house. Of course, one cannot miss the study where Lin Fumiko read and wrote.
