🍜 MASU-en Bunshuke

📝 Introduction

Enjoy exquisite river fish cuisine in a charming Gassho-zukuri style house.

📖 Details

Located in Shirakawa-go, the river fish restaurant MASU-en Bunzuke (ます園文助) offers a variety of dishes made from iwana (rock trout), ookami sakura masu (large cherry salmon), and niji masu (rainbow trout) that are farmed in a tank filled with spring water. The restaurant is situated a bit away from the gassho-zukuri village, in a quiet area towards the observation deck, allowing guests to leisurely enjoy the expansive garden surrounded by traditional gassho-zukuri architecture while dining in a serene atmosphere. The fish used for cooking is caught fresh from the tank only after customers place their orders, ensuring exceptional freshness. The salt-grilled and deep-fried preparations allow for the consumption of the fish head and bones, completely free of any fishy smell, earning praise even from those who are not accustomed to river fish. Among the rich selection of set meals and à la carte dishes, the "MASU-en Set Meal" is highly recommended, featuring salt-grilled niji masu, sashimi, sweet simmered fish, and fried small fish. For an additional 220 yen, customers can substitute the salt-grilled niji masu for iwana or ookami sakura masu. The "Iwana Bone Sake," which involves soaking a whole iwana in warm sake, is also a must-try dish for connoisseurs.
