Nasu Mountain, located in the northern part of Tochigi Prefecture, is the main peak of the Nasu mountain range, also known as "Chausudake." It is a representative active volcano of the Kanto region, still emitting plumes of white smoke today. The main fumaroles are distributed on the western slope, where loud rumbling sounds can also be heard.
From the summit at 1,915 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic landscape in all directions, as well as the spectacular sight of smoke eruptions. The changing scenery of seasonal flowers like azaleas in spring and autumn leaves is also quite charming.
A cable car can take you directly to the 9th station, making it easy to reach the summit. It takes about 50 minutes to walk from the cable car station to the peak, and no specialized climbing gear is necessary to reach the top. However, it is still advisable to wear comfortable shoes, and a light jacket is essential in summer. The area offers multiple trails of varying difficulty to meet the physical needs of visitors, making it a mountain that both beginners and climbing enthusiasts can enjoy.
