About Musashiseki Park (武蔵関公園)
A green oasis for wild birds that retains the old-fashioned appearance of the Musashino area.
Details
Musashi-Kan Park, located in Nerima Ward, Tokyo, is a park rich in natural scenery, centered around the gourd-shaped 富士見池 (Fujimi-ike). The pond is surrounded by walking paths.
Originally, the site was known as 関の溜井 (Seki no Tamai), a reservoir with springs and abundant reeds, which served as the precursor to Fujimi-ike. During the Taisho era, it was a recreational area called 若宮遊園 (Waka-miya Yuen), featuring small boats and play equipment. Today, it functions as a retention basin to manage the flow of the 石神井川 (Shakujii River).
A bridge called 中之橋 (Nakanobashi) spans the center of the reservoir, while two areas in the northeast are designated as boat rental spots. Families particularly enjoy riding traditional small boats at affordable prices.
Additionally, the park is well-known for birdwatching, where visitors can observe many water birds such as 翠鳥 (Kingfisher), 鳳頭潛鴨 (Hooded Merganser), and 小鸊鷉 (Little Grebe), along with forest birds such as 大山雀 (Great Tit) and 長尾山雀 (Long-tailed Tit).
Visitors can enjoy the experience of boating while closely observing the wild birds along the pond's banks.
