About Nago Nature Wildlife Park
The park, about five times the size of Tokyo Dome, recreates the natural environment of tropical regions and is a great family-friendly attraction filled with a sense of openness.
Details
It takes about 10 minutes by car from Nago City to reach Nago Natural Animal and Plant Park (NEO PARK OKINAWA). The park, which is approximately five times the size of Tokyo Dome, recreates the environment of tropical regions. Not only does it concentrate rare and precious flora and fauna here, but it also categorizes them by region, displaying animals and plants that originally belong to the same area together. The main three sections are "Lake Tottori," which recreates the African region; "Amazon Jungle," which represents South America; and "Oceania's Flowers and Birds," which depicts Australia.
The park features a large flight cage with nets hanging in the air, allowing visitors to observe living animals up close. The first director of the park held the belief that "we hope to feel the coexistence of humans and plants and animals," and thus focused on protecting, breeding, and displaying rare species and natural monuments. It actively conducts various activities as an educational venue aimed at spreading knowledge about plants, animals, and nature.
Inside the park, the "Okinawa Light Railway," which once operated on Okinawa Island, has been rebuilt as a guided train, which is very popular among children. In 2021, new companions such as the Himalayan red panda and the desert sand cat were welcomed, allowing visitors to see very cute and charming small animals.
