🎎 Night Festival

📝 Introduction

The "YOSAKOI" festival is a grand and vibrant celebration that conveys the spirit of summer in Kochi to the whole world.

📖 Details

Every year, the "Yorai Matsuri" begins with the pre-festival on the night of August 9, followed by the official festival on the 11th and 12th, and the after-festival on the night of the 12th, making it a four-day event. It takes place at 16 locations, including 9 competition venues and 7 performance stages within Kochi City; approximately 190 teams and around 20,000 participants make it the most vibrant large-scale event of the summer. The national competition held on the last day, the 12th, features competing teams from all over the country showcasing their dance performances. The parade format of the festival includes competition venues where teams dance while moving along major streets like Otemachi, as well as performance stages such as the Central Park venue where audiences can enjoy staged performances. Notably, the pre-festival features stunning dance performances by last year's award-winning teams, which are a must-see. The after-festival on the 12th also showcases dance performances by the current year's award-winning teams, which should not be missed. During the Yorai Matsuri, each team incorporates the melody of "YOSAKOI Naruko Odori" into their performance music. Leading the way is the representative team responsible for sound effects, known as "Chihoukuruma," with dancers holding instruments called "Naruko," who enthusiastically perform while striking the instruments, captivating the audience. The unique styles of costumes worn by each team are also one of the highlights of the festival. There are paid seating areas available, and those who wish to enjoy the event in detail are advised to make reservations in advance.
