About Nozawa Onsen
Enjoy the fun of "onsen hopping" and "stamp rally" in the hot spring town where accommodation facilities stand side by side.
Details
Nozawa Onsen features a variety of public baths, restaurants that use local ingredients, and accommodation facilities all in close proximity. This historic hot spring town is said to have been discovered by the monk Gyoki during the reign of Emperor Shomu (724-748), although there are also claims that it was found by practicing yamabushi (mountain ascetics), leading to various theories.
One of the charms of Nozawa Onsen is the "Yukemuri Tour," which includes 13 public baths that have been preserved since the Edo period, all offering 100% natural hot spring water. Each bath has its own unique benefits, allowing visitors to enjoy soaking in their favorite hot spring. Additionally, there are several foot baths available along the hot spring street for visitors to use throughout the day (note that public foot baths are closed in winter, and other foot baths may have usage restrictions).
Moreover, there are 27 stamp collection points located at famous attractions and historical sites in the hot spring town, allowing visitors to enjoy the fun of a "Stamp Rally." The best part is that collecting more than 10 stamps earns you an original souvenir, a "Yukata Towel," featuring the calligraphy of the artist Taro Okamoto, who has ties to Nozawa Onsen. It is recommended to combine the "Yukemuri Tour" with the stamp collection to learn about the history of Nozawa Onsen while enjoying the experience.
