About Oirase Stream
You can directly enter the pristine nature from the driveway or walkway! Stroll along the stream surrounded by tree shadows, with countless wonderful sights to behold.
Details
The 奥入瀬川 (Oirase River) originates from Lake 十和田 (Towada Lake). The stretch of approximately 14 kilometers from "子之口" (Koinokuchi) to "燒山" (Yamayama) is known as the 奥入瀬溪谷 (Oirase Gorge). This area, rich in dense forests, features clear streams, waterfalls of various shapes, rocks of different sizes, and steep cliffs, making it a prime location to appreciate the diverse natural scenery. It has been designated as a national special scenic spot and natural monument, alongside Lake Towada, and has also received a two-star rating from the Michelin Green Guide.
In the upper reaches of the river, you can find the "銚子瀑布" (Choshi Falls), which is 7 meters high and 20 meters wide, as well as the "九段瀑布" (Kudanz Falls), which flows down from multiple layers of rocks. These waterfalls are collectively referred to as "Waterfall Street." In the middle reaches, the "阿修羅之流" (Ashura Stream) presents a striking contrast between the lush greenery and the rushing waters, while the "雲井瀑布" (Kumoi Falls), with a total drop of 20 meters over three sections, offers breathtaking views that should not be missed. The lower reaches, in the Yamayama area, feature the Oirase Stream Museum, restaurants, and resort hotels, providing convenient spots for rest. The best seasons to visit are early summer, when the greenery is vibrant, and autumn, when the leaves are brilliantly colored.
There are roads and walking paths along the stream. While driving or taking a bus to explore the sights is enjoyable, walking along the stream's path allows for a deeper immersion in nature. The green tunnel formed by the trees covering the road, the sunlight filtering through the leaves, and the fresh forest air create a beautiful natural landscape. The full walk takes about four hours, and if your stamina allows, you should not miss it.
Additionally, bicycle rental services are available at three locations: the "Oirase Stream Museum," "Ishido Rest Area," and "JR Bus Koinokuchi," allowing you to enjoy a refreshing bike ride along the 奥入瀬溪流 (Oirase Stream).
