🎎 Sapporo Lilac Festival

📝 Introduction

The official event that symbolizes the arrival of early summer in Sapporo.

📖 Details

The "Sapporo Lilac Festival," which began in 1959 (Showa 34), was originally aimed at enhancing the cultural atmosphere and is held in conjunction with the blooming season of Sapporo's city tree, the lilac. Since then, it has become a symbol of the arrival of early summer in the hearts of the citizens. The main venue, Odori Park, features around 400 blooming lilac trees and hosts various activities on the "Lilac Stage," including concerts, lilac tree planting, outdoor tea parties, and stamp collection events. Additionally, starting from the 50th festival, a new venue called Kawashita has been added, where visitors can see approximately 1,700 lilacs of about 200 varieties from around the world, along with guided tours through the lilac forest. During the event, a café terrace is set up at Odori Park, offering traditional game experiences and workshops, allowing participants to engage not only visually but also physically and mentally. Furthermore, both the Odori Park and Kawashita venues offer free lilac saplings (while supplies last).
