The New Wind Pavilion, which opened in 2001, unfortunately closed in 2016. It was later redeveloped with the concept of "fusion of tradition and innovation," completing its transformation and reopening in 2020. The red-brick "Preservation Building" is the site of the former Kyoto Central Telephone Bureau. This building, constructed in 1926 during the Taisho era, is registered as Kyoto's number one cultural property; the newly built "New Building" was designed and supervised by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma, known for creating the New National Stadium and other famous structures. From the first to the seventh floor, the "Ace Hotel Kyoto," the first American chain hotel to establish a presence in Asia, is located, while the basement level features the mini cinema "UPLINK Kyoto," famous for its selection of unique films. Additionally, there are over 20 shops, including popular fashion and miscellaneous goods stores, as well as restaurants. In addition to many local favorites, new stores that have sparked interest, such as the "first in the Kansai region" and "first in Kyoto Prefecture," have also set up shop here.
