📝 Introduction
Inheriting a 200-year-old method, quietly offering the representative confectionery of Shizuoka.
📖 Details
Founded in 1804, this long-established wagashi shop has continued since the Edo period. Locals and tourists flock here to taste the famous Abe River mochi.
Dine-in options include Abe River mochi (800 yen), which consists of four pieces of mochi sprinkled with soybean flour and sugar, and four pieces filled with red bean paste; as well as spicy mochi (800 yen) served with Shizuoka's specialty wasabi and soy sauce. Both types of mochi are prepared fresh after ordering, warmed in hot water, and shaped into bite-sized pieces, offering a soft yet chewy texture. The combination of the soybean flour and the red bean-filled Abe River mochi, along with the spicy mochi enjoyed with wasabi soy sauce, provides distinctly different flavors, making it recommended to try both.
Abe River mochi, which began being sold as a specialty in tea houses along the Abe River in the early Edo period, is also mentioned in the famous comic novel "Tōkaidōchū Hizakurige." Its filling nature has made it popular among travelers, and it is said that the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu also enjoyed its deliciousness. Take a moment to admire the photos of the shop from various periods while savoring this beloved snack that has been cherished for centuries.
