When he sent wholesale tea leaves to Osaka and Sakai, he felt it was a waste for the empty ship to return, so he brought back Okinawan brown sugar and Awamori wasanbon sugar, which were considered precious commodities at the time, and began to transform into a sugar merchant. Since sugar was quite rare back then, the shop earned the nickname "Denjirō's Sugar Shop," and has been a beloved establishment for over 160 years. The signature product is the beautifully amber-colored "Gimon Rice Candy." Made from rice and malt, it has a mild flavor and rich layers, and can be made into cold candy or enjoyed with ice cream or yogurt, offering a smooth and delicate texture. Additionally, "Gimon Rice Candy" and the "Nara Konpeitō" made from Nara ingredients are also popular souvenirs. With a variety of flavors including Yamato tea, sencha, and blueberry, the selection is rich and makes it hard to choose. The Nara-style packaging is charming and cute, making it a must-visit shop when sightseeing in "Naramachi."
