🎎 Suwa Lake Festival Fireworks Display

The Suwa Lake Festival Fireworks Festival takes place on the stage of Suwa Lake in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture. It began in 1949 (Showa 24) with the "Cool Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival" and has since been held annually on August 15. By 2025, it will mark the 77th traditional fireworks festival. The highlight of the event is the continuous display of semi-circular water fireworks launched from a scaffold in the shallow waters of the lake. The high-speed, simultaneous fireworks launched from the platforms set up on the lake are spectacular; the sounds of the fireworks echo through the surrounding mountains and forests, creating a unique experience as the vibrations resonate through the body. Each year, a large number of tourists flock to this city with a population of about 50,000, making it one of the largest events in Suwa City. The fireworks festival coincides with Japan's "Obon" festival, so on the day of the event, not only the city center but also nearby roads and highways become extremely congested.
