🍜 Tea House Warm Warm

📝 Introduction

In a 200-year-old machiya building, enjoy Nara's simple local cuisine "chagayu" (tea porridge).

📖 Details

A purely Japanese tea house standing in a corner of Naramachi. The building is an old machiya of the Matsuyama family, a wealthy local merchant from early times, with a history of about 200 years, designated as a registered cultural property of Nara Prefecture. Upon entering the shop, you are greeted by a traditional tatami room, and just being in this space allows you to feel a soothing atmosphere. The signature dish in the shop is "chagayu," a local Nara cuisine that has been consumed for over 1300 years. Without hesitation, ordering the classic and popular chagayu set is a sure choice. The shop also offers roasted tea and red bean tea, which you can choose according to your preference. The star dish, chagayu, is served in a steaming iron pot. It comes with a set of side dishes including shredded daikon, Nara pickles, umeboshi, gobo, and takana, along with a soup made from local Nara ingredients. The accompanying Yamato tea powder and salt can be added as desired while enjoying the chagayu, enhancing its flavor. After finishing the chagayu, it is recommended to try the dessert "warabi mochi" and "Yamato tea."
