📜 Content

The Toyoshima Art Museum is located on a small hill in Toyoshima Takaguchi, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, and was created in collaboration between artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa. The museum measures 40 meters wide and 60 meters long, with a maximum height of 4.5 meters. It is a unique concrete shell structure built without a single column, resembling the moment a water droplet hits the ground, leaving a lasting impression with its distinctive appearance. Inside the museum, there are two skylights in the ceiling that allow the natural wind, sounds, and light to flow into the space. The floor is dotted with many small holes that periodically release crystal-clear water droplets, which gradually accumulate throughout the day to form a piece representing the theme of the Toyoshima Art Museum called "Spring Water." This is also the artwork "Mother Type" created by artist Rei Naito in 2010. In this space where "Spring Water" is born every day, different seasonal changes and the passage of time present various charms. Photography is not allowed inside the Toyoshima Art Museum, but it is permitted at the nearby café. The café's exterior is very similar to that of the museum, and it also features a circular skylight in the ceiling. Visitors can sit on the carpet, enjoy the sunlight streaming through the skylight, and savor delicious food and drinks. The menu is diverse, and local ingredients such as the famous Toyoshima specialties—olives, strawberries, and lemons—are particularly popular.
