About Toyo Bunko Museum
With a collection of up to one million books, it is a specialized library that enhances interest in East Asian culture.
Details
The East Asian Cultural Research Library and the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Toyo Bunko opened the "Toyo Bunko Museum" in 2011 to spark greater interest in East Asian culture among the public. The museum showcases approximately one million volumes of books and precious materials.
In the "Orient Hall," located at the entrance of the museum, there is the longest display case in the country, featuring replicas of the "Edo Large Map" and the "Gwanggaeto Stele" in actual size, along with valuable ancient books. Ascending the stairs to the second floor, the "Morrison Library" boasts a wall of books reaching up to the ceiling, filled with literature related to East Asian culture, creating a spectacular sight. The "Iwasaki Library" displays national treasures, important cultural properties, ukiyo-e, and more, with exhibits changing three times a year, ensuring that visitors always find something new and exciting.
The "Seidobol Garden," which features many flowering plants introduced in the "Flora of Japan," is quite popular, providing a nice spot for a break during your visit to the exhibition rooms. The "Orient Cafe" offers a recommended omelet rice dish co-planned with "Koiwai Farm," as well as meals made with Koiwai beef.
*Due to facility construction, the Toyo Bunko Museum will temporarily close. Closure period: December 27, 2024 – Fall 2025.*
