🎎 Tsurumi Dyeing and Decoration Craft: Visit to Kaga Yuzen Workshop
🎨 Festival Gallery
📝 Introduction
Experience the creation of dazzling and beautiful gold leaf.
📖 Details
Kaga Yuzen, along with Kyoto's "Kyo Yuzen" and Tokyo's "Edo Yuzen," is known as one of the "Three Great Yuzen" and is a dream kimono that every woman wears at least once in her lifetime. Its most distinctive feature is that all the floral patterns on the fabric are created using hand-painted dyeing techniques by artisans, without any embroidery or other decorations.
The founder of Kaga Yuzen, Miyazaki Yuzensai, was born in Ishikawa Prefecture. In his later years, he worked at "Taro Taya," a dyeing shop favored by the Kaga domain, laying the foundation for Kaga Yuzen. The techniques of "Taro Taya" were later passed down by "Tsurumi Dyeing and Craft."
In the workshop, which has an artificial river set up as a dyeing area, visitors can not only observe the continuous process of Kaga Yuzen production but also experience the "Gold Maki Experience," where they can create a handbag or a lunch mat using finely crushed gold leaf under the guidance of Kaga Yuzen artist Mr. Tsurumi Shinji. At the end of the experience, participants can wear Kaga Yuzen and take commemorative photos.
