📜 Content

Kurehashijima's Katsurahama was designated as a stopover port on the maritime route during the era of the Japanese envoys to Tang China (around 630-894 AD). It thrived as a maritime traffic stronghold at that time. The volcano, which stands prominently in the central part of the island, is said to have derived its name from its function as a lighthouse that burned firewood at its peak. From JR Kure Station, it takes about an hour by bus to reach the trailhead. There is a hiking trail from the trailhead to the summit, which takes approximately 60 minutes one way, allowing you to enjoy the pleasure of hiking. From the large rocks at the summit, you can enjoy an unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view, with beautiful sights of the Shikoku region and the Seto Inland Islands visible in the distance, making it a very popular scenic spot.
