About Yantian Gorge
A valley with rock walls formed by a volcanic eruption 54,000 years ago.
Details
Igarashi is located at the confluence of the "Osaka River" and "Nigorokawa River." It is a large rock wall that stands 72 meters high and 120 meters wide, designated as a natural monument of Gifu Prefecture. About 54,000 years ago, the lava that flowed from the eruption of Mount Ontake solidified to form a geological structure known as "columnar jointing," creating a unique landscape resembling countless columns lined up in a row.
Igarashi showcases different seasonal views, such as fresh greenery in spring and soft white snow in winter, with the autumn scenery of vibrant foliage being particularly breathtaking. The "Igarashi Park," located at the front of the rock formation, has a parking lot, restrooms, and shops, allowing visitors to closely admire the spectacular towering cliffs.
Nearby, there is a 600-meter-long Takimi Trail leading to the Three Waterfalls, where you can enjoy various landscapes along the way, including the Fudo Myoo related to Enko and various giant stones. After enjoying the scenery, you can stop by "HIMESYAGA no Yu" to relax and relieve travel fatigue in the natural high-concentration carbonated hot spring with brownish cloudy water.
