About Amanohashidate Coast
Looking out at the Tateyama mountain range on the other side of the sea, the white sandy beaches and the stretch of green pines along the coast make it a famous scenic spot in Japan.
Details
A 5-minute walk from JR Himi Line's Amihari Station, this area becomes a beach in the summer, attracting tourists with its clean and clear water. The gentle waves lap against the sandy beach, and on the opposite side, you can gaze at the Tateyama mountain range, which rises to 3,000 meters, and the Noto Peninsula. This white sandy beach, with its stretching green pines, was once favored by the poet Ōtomo no Yakamochi from the "Man'yōshū."
In the refreshing season, the sunlight reflects off the sparkling sea surface, creating a pleasant atmosphere; the winter phenomenon known as "umimu" (海霧) is also moving. Umimu refers to the fog that forms when the cold winter air moves over the sea in the early morning, creating a mysterious scene reminiscent of a sea of clouds, breathtakingly beautiful.
On the nearby isolated island "Onna-Iwa," there stands a pine tree, whose elegant posture is also a must-see photo spot. Additionally, the observation deck at the roadside rest area "Amihari," facing the coastline, offers a panoramic and spectacular view of the sea, making it worth a visit.
