About Aoyama Historical Village
You can understand the history and culture of Tanba Sasayama, as well as the historical village of the Dekansho Festival.
Details
Aoyama Historical Village is a site established during the Edo period, from the mid-Edo period until the Meiji Restoration, by the Aoyama family, who served as the lords of the Sasayama Domain for six generations. After the return of the land, they built a villa called "Keien-sha," which now serves as a facility for displaying historical materials related to the domain's governance.
In the exhibition room, which has been converted from a warehouse, there are woodblocks of classical Chinese texts such as "Daigaku Engi Ho" and "Tsukan Ranyou," which were reprinted by the Sasayama Domain. It also displays plans submitted to the shogunate for the repair of the stone walls of Sasayama Castle, showcasing precious historical materials designated as city cultural assets.
The thatched-roof longhouse gate currently used as the entrance was relocated from the old longhouse gate of the Sasayama samurai family, Sawai. The site also features the stone treasury "Ishizō Kinbaku," which was used by the Sasayama Domain and is designated as a cultural asset by the city.
In addition, the attached "Tamba Sasayama Dekansho-kan" includes an exhibition area for the "Dekansho Dance" and an audiovisual room where visitors can experience the traditional盆舞歌 (Bon Dance Song) of Tamba Sasayama, known as Dekansho.
