About Aoyama Park
The scene of the local train passing through the cherry blossom tunnel is like a scene from a movie.
Details
Aomori Prefecture is home to a public leisure park famous for being a childhood playground of the writer Osamu Dazai. Centered around Lake Ashino, this vast park covers an area of 800,000 hectares and is home to up to 1,500 cherry blossom trees. Every spring, the park transforms into a pastel wonderland. It is not only one of the largest parks on the Tsugaru Peninsula but has also been selected as one of the "One Hundred Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." From April 29 to May 7 each year, the "Kanagi Cherry Blossom Festival" is held, attracting large crowds and creating a lively atmosphere.
One of the highlights is the Tsugaru Railway's "Bonsō MEROSU" train, which travels through a stunning cherry blossom tunnel. The "Ashino Park" station, located within the park, features a uniquely designed station building and vintage train cars, making it a picturesque spot against the backdrop of blooming cherry blossoms. The park also includes the "Dazai Bridge" and the "Osamu Dazai Literary Monument," which are said to be places Dazai walked while contemplating his works, as well as the "Birthplace of Tsugaru Shamisen" and other notable attractions. Enjoying the cherry blossoms while leisurely strolling around adds to the experience.
Additionally, there is a "Children's Zoo" and a "Car Camping Ground," making the park a beloved recreational spot for local residents throughout the year, not just during cherry blossom season.
