About Awazu Onsen
A hot spring resort with a history of 1300 years, full of sentiment.
Details
Since Master Taiyō began the hot spring baths during the Nara period, it has attracted countless visitors seeking hot spring therapy. Originating from the sacred peak of Hakusan, it is also the oldest hot spring in Kaga, renowned for treating neuralgia, muscle pain, knife wounds, burns, and for its detoxifying effects.
Among them, the third lord of Kaga, Maeda Toshiie, particularly favored Awazu Onsen, which is said to have initiated the culture of hot springs. Each hot spring facility has its own source, with slight variations in mineral composition and temperature.
Additionally, Awazu Onsen is famous for the "Love Story of Amatsu and Takematsu," which has been passed down since the Edo period. It is said to be the place where "Takematsu" and "Amatsu," a maid working at an inn in the town, overcame hardships to find love, earning it the title of "Sacred Place for Lovers." Local attractions such as "Amatsu Falls" and "Amatsu Shrine" are related to this love story. Notably, the "Amatsu Festival" is held on the last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of August, where many locals and tourists participate, singing the folk song "Amatsu-bushi" and dancing joyfully to the sound of large drums.
Highlights
It takes only 25 minutes to get to Matsumoto Airport by car, making transportation very convenient. The nearby Nagozan Temple, along with its gardens and autumn foliage, is also very famous.
