About Beppu Ropeway

Open the door to the extraordinary and gaze at the beauty of Beppu from the aerial road.

Details

From the Beppu Kogen Station at the foot of "Tsurumi Mountain," one of Japan's 300 famous mountains, a cable car ascends at a steep angle to the Tsurumi Mountain Summit Station at an altitude of 1,300 meters in about 10 minutes. The gondola, which is 12 meters wide and 8 meters long, is the most spacious in Kyushu and has prioritized safety since it began operation in 1962. At the top of the mountain is the "Tsurumi Mountain Gongen Ichinomiya," a representative energy attraction of Oita Prefecture. Surrounding the mountain are pilgrimage routes for the Seven Lucky Gods and various shrines, where visitors can pray for blessings from the deities. From the various viewpoints, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Beppu city and the coastline of Beppu Bay. The scenery is not only pleasant during the day but also offers a beautiful night view that should not be missed. With the changing natural landscapes throughout the seasons, it is sure to touch everyone's heart. Next to the sales area, there is a shop selling local specialties and a variety of souvenirs. The "Kyushu Shochu Tavern," featuring over 500 types of shochu from across Kyushu, is also worth a visit. Both the foot of the mountain and the summit stations are equipped with wheelchair-accessible elevators, and the cable car and boarding areas are designed with a flat surface, ensuring that visitors in wheelchairs can use them safely.

Highlights

The cable car connects the foothills of "Tsurumi-dake" and the summit at an elevation of 1,300 meters. There are energy spots on the mountain and viewing areas that offer a panoramic view of the Beppu area.
