📝 Introduction
A new type of café that combines Japanese tea with spices (Wakan Yō).
📖 Details
A Japanese tea café will open in February 2024 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Located in the Muromachi district, just a street away from JR "Nishi-Kokura" Station, it offers a new experience of Japanese tea by incorporating spices and elements of "Wakan-Yō" (Japanese, Chinese, and Western). This café aims to relieve daily physical and mental fatigue, attracting attention from various circles.
The highlight is the "Essence of Beautiful Tea," which is caffeine-free. It features three specially crafted teas: "Nichinichi Kore Kōjitsu," designed to be consumed when feeling restless; "Gokō," suitable for adjusting one's physical and mental state; and "Genshin Honjin," which aids in achieving a good night's sleep. In addition to individual orders, there is a "Tasting Set" that allows customers to sample the characteristics of all three teas in smaller quantities. Another unique offering is the "Matcha Genshin," which is an innovative drink made by sprinkling ground spices over Fukuoka's famous Yame tea.
The café is situated along the historic Nagasaki Road, known as the "Sugar Road" due to its prosperity from sugar transportation in ancient times. Along the way, visitors can find local delicacies such as bean snacks, konpeitō (sugar candies), and yokan (sweet bean jelly), as well as desserts made with tea, all worth trying. Additionally, there is a porridge made from tea broth using over 50 ingredients that comes highly recommended.
Inside the café, local artists' works will be on display for sale, along with local ceramics representing Kyushu culture, such as "Hasami-yaki" and "Koishiwara-yaki." It is said that the merchandise will change monthly.
