Gazing at the magnificent scenery of Chanzhai Lake from the lakeshore.
Details
Located within Nikko National Park, "Chūzenji Lake" is the highest lake in Japan. You can enjoy the unique scenery around Chūzenji Lake by taking the "Chūzenji Lake Sightseeing Boat." There are various routes available, including a loop around Chūzenji Lake and a seasonal route to Senjōbama, allowing you to explore famous attractions along the lakeshore.
The route that circles around Chūzenji Lake passes by Shōbutsu no Hama, the Embassy Villa Memorial Park, and Tachiki Kannon. You can disembark midway to walk to "Kegon Falls" or visit the "Italian and British Embassy Villa Memorial Park." It is recommended to purchase a round-trip boat ticket that allows you to get on and off freely (valid only for the day of purchase and for one complete loop around the lake). The boat also provides guided commentary, so you don't have to worry about missing important sights.
Additionally, the Senjōbama route, which operates only during the blooming season of the rare "Kuwon-sō" (Kuwon flower) on the western side of the lake (every June), is also quite popular. This area is one of the rare habitats for Kuwon-sō in Japan, attracting large numbers of visitors during the flowering period.
