📖 Details
This baked curry specialty shop is located in the popular tourist destination "Moji Port," at the northernmost tip of Kyushu. Baked curry is a local dish originating from Moji Port, where curry is poured over rice, topped with cheese and eggs, and baked in the oven. It has now become a standard cheese topping, reportedly invented by the owner, Mr. Matsui, who covered the egg yolk with cheese to prevent it from breaking during baking.
The Moji Port RETORO shop offers only baked curry on its menu. The rich flavor is created by slowly frying a brown batter and combining it with homemade French broth. The shop's signature dish is the "Traditional Baked Curry," introduced in the 30th year of the Showa era, which uses Kyushu black-haired wagyu beef and adds diced processed cheese for flavor enhancement. In addition to classic flavors like seafood and vegetables, there are also special winter-only flavors such as crab and banana. There are five levels of spiciness to choose from, and portion sizes come in S, M, and L, allowing customers to order according to their preferences. The sight of it bubbling hot in a specially designed oven at 320 degrees is sure to whet anyone's appetite.
