About Daiō Wasabi Farm
Japan's largest wasabi farm. Located in the beautiful Azumino region, it cultivates top-quality wasabi using the meltwater from the Northern Alps.
Details
Daio Wasabi Farm, established in 1917, is the largest wasabi farm in Japan, utilizing meltwater from the Northern Alps to grow wasabi. The farm covers an area of 15 hectares, with a daily water flow of approximately 120,000 tons entering the fields. The spring water maintains a constant temperature of around 13°C, which is ideal for wasabi growth. The farm features beautiful scenery, with the crystal-clear waters of the Tade River flowing through its heart, and a small hut with a triple waterwheel built along the riverbank, creating a dreamy pastoral landscape. The best time to view wasabi flowers is from mid-March to April. There are walking paths in the fields, allowing visitors to stroll through the picturesque wasabi fields while listening to the gentle sound of flowing water and enjoying the fresh, pure wasabi flowers.
The farm has three dining facilities: "Yusui Hangama Daio-an," "Restaurant OASIS," and "DAIO'S CAFE," offering a variety of original dishes made with premium wasabi. It is no exaggeration to say that you can taste the freshest, most delicious, and most authentic wasabi cuisine here. Additionally, there are cleverly crafted wasabi desserts that combine sweetness and spiciness, with the farm's famous wasabi soft serve ice cream (390 yen) being a must-try.
The most popular items in the farm shop are fresh wasabi, as well as wasabi snacks, wasabi-flavored sauces, and unique products like cheese. Among them, the tube wasabi paste (1,000 yen) and wasabi sauce (480 yen) are golden partners for meat dishes and are highly recommended as souvenirs.
