About Daisen (Tottori Prefecture)

The highest peak in the Chinese region offers beautiful scenery throughout the year.

Details

Daisen is a composite volcano with an elevation of 1,709 meters, making it the highest peak in the Chūgoku region of Japan and a symbol of Tottori Prefecture. It has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains and one of Japan's 100 Scenic Views. The area is designated as Daisen-Oki National Park, which includes the Hiruzen area, the Oki Islands, the Shimane Peninsula, and the Sanbe Mountain region. Daisen presents different appearances from various perspectives. From the city of Yonago, its conical shape is very similar to that of Mount Fuji, earning it the nickname "Bōki Fuji." From the direction of Daisen Town, the northern wall forms a screen-like rock face created by Japan's largest lava dome. From the direction of Kōfu Town, one can see the rough surface of the southern wall of Daisen. In the elevation range of 800 to 1,300 meters, there is the largest beech forest in western Japan. During the lush green seasons, this area is a popular spot for touring the foothills and hiking. The autumn foliage and winter snow scenes are also quite beautiful, ranking third in the "Japan's Famous Peaks Ranking." The Daisen area is also a well-known location for stargazing. Tours such as the Daisen and Starry Sky Guided Tour and Photography Guided Tour are very popular for observing the beautiful night sky.
