Located in the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, the roadside rest area in Kitauura Town is situated within the beautiful coastal scenery of the Nichinan Coast National Park. It is located in the Shimokaso Beach Resort area along National Route 388, surrounded by the sea and forests, rich in greenery. Nearby, there are ample facilities including camping grounds, tennis courts, and a product hall selling a variety of local specialties, restaurants, as well as salt fields and a salt museum. In the restaurant "Seafood Hall," seasonal seafood from the local fishing base of Kitauura is always on display. You can enjoy a variety of dishes, including the "Umihou Don" made with freshly caught seafood from Kitauura, and the "Chicken Nanban" set meal originating from Nobeoka. The product hall features items produced in the area, such as "Tsuki no Shio" (Moon Salt) and "Shio-dofu Chan," along with a rich selection of local specialties including seafood, processed marine products, and green tea. Shimokaso Beach has clear water and is the only beach in Kyushu selected as one of the "100 Best Swimming Beaches" by the Ministry of the Environment. The nearby island, Shimanoura, acts as a natural breakwater, creating calm and wave-free waters. There is also a river pond open for use, making it a safe place for children to play in the water during the summer.
